Thursday, Nov 14th. Tuliwasili Philipsburg, St. Maarten saa mbili asubuhi, tulifurahije sasa maana baada ya kuwa majini kwa siku tano mfululizo bila nchi kavu. Tukiwa kwenye Philipsburg is the main town on the Dutch side of the Netherlands Antilies island of Saint Maarten.
It is also the capital of all Saint Maarten and functions as the islands commercial center. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus on November 11, 1493, but there was already an Arawak settlement there before he made the discovery, Philipsburg was founded in 1763 by John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy, and soon became a bustling center of international trade. Two historic forts bear witness to Philipsburg’s strategic importance in St. Maarten’s history: Fort Amserdam and Fort Williem. The main shopping district, Front Street, is in the heart of the city.
The most interesting spot ambayo tumevisit tukiwa St. Maarten ni Maho beach, ambayo iko famous for low flying aircraft as they come in to land na wakati mwingine tourists wanasukumwa na upepo wakati ndege kubwa zikiwa zina take off! Nasi tukiwa wamojawapo lol!
No jet aircraft landed while we were at Maho beach unfortunately, but it was still a very nice place to swim.
The Island Territory of Saint Maarten is one of five island area (Eilandgebieden) of the Netherlands Antilies, encompassesthe Southern half of the Island of Saint Martin/Saint Maarten. Saint Maarten borders the French Island.
